I had woken awake with a gasp as I'd done for the past few nights at the hospital. I look over to my right at the digital clock that sat on my bedside table: 2:30AM. That was the longest I'd ever slept since...well, since the night of the fight with the bringers. I still couldn't get it through my head that they were gone. It really put things in perspective. There were only a couple of us left that were in the fight. It could only be a matter of days that they come back for us. But now, I'm pretty sure that we'll have better protection. I've even heard that we might share apartments with people from Wolfram and Hart.

Collen, Molly, and I are the only ones that made it out. Alive. My best friends there were Vi and Chloe. And...well, I don't even like to think about it. I try to avoid the thought by reading. I've read about a hundred books since I got into the hospital, but whenever I fall asleep, I relive everything.

I haven't gotten too many visiters. Just some random people from Wolfram and Hart who kind of watch over us and make sure that the bringers aren't going to come into the hospital. I actually think that they're working on a spell to protect the hospital from them or something. That sounds pretty cool. I wonder if they would teach us some magick. Then we could maybe protect ourselves in a fight.

I wandered the halls of the hospital. I couldn't sleep at nights anymore. Everytime a shadow would move across the wall I would panic. So I had taken to sleeping in the afternoons and exploring the hospital at night.

I really shouldn't have been allowed to of course, but one of the evening nurses, Vanessa, felt sorry for me and snuck a pair of scrubs into my bospital room a few nights ago. I change into those, grab the clipboard from the base of my bed, and no one looks twice at me as I wander through the halls.

I had taken to checking on the girls the last few nights out. Tonight Molly was sleeping fitfully. I watched her tossing and turning for a moment, before slipping past the doorway towads Amanda's room. I was worried about her the most. Molly had been my closest friend, and she had survived. But Amanda's best friends had been killed in front of her...I swallowed painfully at the thought of that night.

Peeking into her room I saw her laying awake in her hospital bed.
"Hey Wakey Girl." I smiled softly, entering the stillness of the room. "Want some company?"

Still lying awake, when I heard a voice, I let out a small gasp. Every time I heard an unexpected noise, a fast blur of images of the Bringers rushed through my mind. But it was Colleen.

"Hey, yeah," I told her, sitting up. Looking at her. She looked equally as sleep-deprived and she was wearing hospital clothes.

"I like the outfit," I said pointing at her. "Where did you get that?" I asked, trying to avoid the subject of the fight, though I knew it eventually would come up. So many people were gone, and . . . well, it was going to be hard to not talk about such a big thing sooner or later, I thought.

And then there were other big things to be discussed: if we're going back to training, for instance, or where we're going to stay, or if Wolfram and Hart are going to send us back home. I'd had a lot of time to think while I was in the hospital, and I wasn't sure if that was a good thing.

I gently padded into the room, and switched on the small beside lamp that sat on Amanda's nightstand. It cast a warm glow through the room that I was sure neither Amanda or I would feel. I settled myself down at the foot of her bed and tucked my feet up underneath me. I grinned sheepishly as she mentioned my new threads.

"One of the late shift nurses, Vanessa, knew that I couldn't sleep at night so she snuck some scrubs into my room for me so that I can wander around the hospital at night without getting into trouble. All you have to do is carry a clipboard around and look busy. No one will look twice at you. I could always have her get you a pair too. We could be stealthy night buddies. Seeing everything, seen by no one." I grinned cheesily at my stupid joke before clearing my throat as the silence again set in.
